Jake and I went to Sanya in Hainan Island for 7 days. Our first hotel was pretty nice, with a pool and our own private beach which stretched on for miles! The Chinese don’t like to sunbathe, or even be out in the sun, so we were the only people on the beach most of the time! However, on our first day, we burnt. Even with sun cream and everything!! The rays must have been so strong, so we were careful after that and stayed out the sun!
The beach was full of crabs, which all scuttled back into their holes in the sand if you came too close. It was really memorizing to watch. The second day, we took a trip into Sanya town. There were lots of westerners and interesting shops selling shells and pearls etc. We went to a great Brazilian bbq restaurant and ate lots!! We then walked miles back on the beach to our hotel, very romantic! At night, the beach is pretty busy with Chinese families enjoying the moonlight, safe from tanning.
The next day, we just lazed by the pool and ate great seafood and fish in the hotel restaurant. It really was a lazy lovely holiday. After 3 days, we moved from Sanya Bay to our next destination in DaDong bay.
Now, this was totally different to our last location. The busy was busy with water sports and plenty of westerners. The beach front was lined with bars and restaurants and expensive looking hotels. The pictures will show just how nice the beach was. Each day, Jake and I got a spot on the sun beds with a umbrella to protect us from the sun, very sensible huh! The water was clear and really warm; even you mum would have gone swimming in it!!
Jake was obsessed with trying to see the fish and so he bought a snorkel. However, reason unknown, the fish all flocked to me, and sat around my feet. Jake was thrilled that all he had to do was just snorkel by my feet to see the fish, I was glad to help.
It was a great break, each day, laying on the beach, swimming and chatting Chinese, laughing at the fat westerners burning our in the sun. There was also a startling amount of fat western men with gorgeous Chinese young girlfriends. This always makes me shudder, is money really worth demeaning yourself that much??
Much to Jake’s despair, we found a great western restaurant with burgers, cheese and everything from the West I have missed so much! It was exactly what I needed, fatty fried breakfast and pancakes. Uh, I could have stayed forever. We did eat seafood a few times, but I was very greedy and made Jake return to the carbohydrate central, fulfilling western diet.
Some of the nights, we had monsoon rain and it was crazy walking about in hot steamy floods! Most of the people just carried on with their business as the torrential rain carried on pouring down!!
Sorry this is just random facts, the pictures will tell a much better story. We really didn’t go on any trips, or wander miles like we normally do. This was a purely relaxing holiday and it was great. Sanya is a great resort and I would recommend a visit!
By the way, I will be back in England, July 5th!! xxx
